Reid's Threats Risk Undermining Success of ABCs

November 14, 2006 4:43 PM

Commenting on John Reid's proposals for on-the-spot fines for parents whose children break voluntary Acceptable Behaviour Contracts, Jenny Willott MP, said:

"Surprise, surprise. Another day, another headline-grabbing speech from John Reid.

"All the evidence suggests that the success of Acceptable Behaviour Contracts, first pioneered by the Liberal Democrats in London, is based on engaging not demonising young people and their families.

"ABCs are already enforced with sanctions, but by adding another layer of threats and penalties, John Reid seems ready once again to sacrifice what works for a one-off hit in the media."

If you are a resident of the Cardiff Central constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
