Benefit Fraud & Error Costing Welsh Households Dear

Commenting on today's report by the Department for Work and Pensions shows that the cost of fraud and error in benefits payments was £2.6bn last year, Jenny Willott MP and member of the Work and Pensions Select Committee, said:

"It is horrendous that the Government is still wasting billions of pounds of taxpayers' money on incorrectly paid benefits. This is costing the average Welsh household over £100 a year.

"Gordon Brown has constantly undermined any efforts to reduce fraud and error by making our tax and benefits system ever more complex through constant tinkering and means testing.

"The continued rise in housing benefits, despite government's efforts to combat it, is especially worrying.

"Fraud and error will remain a constant feature of our benefits system until the Government takes radical action to simplify it."
