ASW Workers Take Fight to No.10 and Beyond

Today, as the Judicial review looking into the Occupational pensions Saga begins in the High Court, Jenny Willott MP joined hundreds of people, including former ASW workers, in Parliament Square to protest over this affair that has left over 100,000 people with little or none of their hard earned pensions.
Commenting afterwards, Jenny said:
"Today was a chance for the Government to see the faces of hundreds of the people they have abandoned in this sordid affair.
"The strength of feeling on this issue is enormous, both inside and outside Parliament, and it was fantastic to see that so many people and MPs had come to make their voices heard.
"The Government has acted appallingly over this issue, not only cast aside the Ombudsman's report, but also the view of the European Court of Justice and the recommendations of the cross-party Public Administration Select Committee of which I am a member.
"Surely the Government should recognise that it's 'three strikes and out'. Today's protest and petition was a sharp reminder to Tony Blair and his Government that they have had every chance to put this right.
"Tony Blair shouldn't wait until the High Court gives their verdict - enough people have told him what he should do to make amends. Now is the time to do so."
Later Jenny, who also sits on the Public Administration Committee, joined a cross-party group of MPs and John Benson, key ASW pensions activist, to hand in his petition to No. 10 Downing Street calling on the Government to compensate all those who have lost their pensions. The petition has been signed by over 5,000 people. After handing in the petition, the protesters continued on to The High Court for the start of the legal hearing.
