Willott to Lend Support to South Wales Police in Pay Dispute

January 22, 2008 12:02 AM

Tomorrow, Jenny Willott MP will be meeting with members of South Wales Police to lend her support to their campaign for a fair and just pay settlement. A large lobby from the Police Federation will be carrying out a protest march and rally outside Parliament over the Government's recent pay offer.

Jenny has also signed two Early Day Motions in Parliament in support of the Police's position.

Commenting in advance, Jenny said:

"As far as I am concerned, this is an open and shut case. The Government has clearly broken its promise to the police.

"South Wales Police work tirelessly to tackle crime and bring safety to our streets. Since they are not allowed to strike, then it is only right that the Government gives them the respect they deserve by abiding by the decision of the Police Arbitration Tribunal.

"The decision of the Tribunal should be equally binding on both sides."

If you are a resident of the Cardiff Central constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
