LAST CHANCE FOR FIRST GREAT WESTERN TO GET BACK ON TRACK

February 26, 2008 12:00 AM

Responding to the announcement that the Government has issued a remedial notice against train company First Great Western for the number of train cancellations that exceeded the threshold under its franchise agreement, Jenny Willott, Welsh Liberal Democrat MP for Cardiff Central, said:

"Today's announcement should be treated as the last chance for First Great Western.

"The company is lucky not to have had its franchise removed given the appalling service it has offered in recent months and especially now that it admits to misreporting figures.

"The remedial package should offer some relief for rail passengers across South Wales who have been left facing long delays, last minute train cancellations and overcrowded carriages.

"First Great Western have come to the end of the line. The company must now deliver on the promised improvements. Any breach of this agreement should be treated as a default, terminating the contract."

If you are a resident of the Cardiff Central constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
