POCA DELAYS LEAVE WELSH POST OFFICES HANGING ON KNIFE EDGE

Commenting on today's Business and Enterprise Report on the Post Office Card Account, and ahead of a Liberal Democrat opposition Day Debate which will be lead by Jenny Willott, Lib Dem Shadow Work and Pensions Spokesperson and MP for Cardiff Central, Jenny said:
"The drawn out Post Office Card Account saga has left Welsh Post offices hanging on a knife edge for nearly a year and unable to plan for the future.
"The Government said that the successor to the Post Office Card Account would be agreed and signed off by the start of this year. But it's November and we still have no decision.
"There are hundreds of Welsh Post Offices whose books balance thanks to the income they receive through POCA. By dragging their heels, the Government are treating these Post Offices and their communities appallingly.
"There are over 350,000 POCA customers in Wales, many of whom are elderly, disabled or living in isolated rural locations, who could be severely affected if their local Post Office is forced to close as a result of losing the POCA contract.
"The Government must come clean and be honest with the public, sub-postmasters and POCA customers. They ,must make a decision as soon as possible."
