WILLOTT BACKS RNID CYMRU'S CHECKS FOR A HEALTHY HEARING FUTURE

September 25, 2009 12:00 AM

Jenny Willott, Welsh Liberal Democrat MP for Cardiff Central, has joined RNID Cymru's call for people to value their hearing and take the charity's specially developed hearing check.

Jenny at the RNID stallAt the Liberal Democrat party conference in Bournemouth, Jenny Willott heard about RNID's five-minute hearing check, which assesses your ability to hear someone speaking with background noise - similar to being in a crowded room - and helps identify whether you have a hearing loss.

Commenting, Jenny said:

"Many people don't realise how important their hearing is in their everyday lives, until they start to lose it. But if you act early, you can do something about it.

"I'm lending my voice to RNID Cymru's Hearing Matters campaign, which is encouraging you to look after your hearing by taking the check in Welsh by dialing 0844 800 88 80 or in English on 0844 800 3838.

"You can also visit www.rnid.org.uk/hearingmatters or www.rnid.org.uk/profi and take immediate action to avoid experiencing unnecessary isolation from friends, family and colleagues."

Director of RNID Cymru, Richard Williams, said:

"On average, people take 15 years to deal with their hearing loss and, in that time, a person's quality of life can be greatly reduced. We urge people in Cardiff to follow Jenny Willott MP's example and take our check today, so that you can start addressing any hearing loss and ensure you don't miss out on leading a fulfilling and active life."

If you are a resident of the Cardiff Central constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
