BOILER SCRAPPAGE SCHEME TOO LITTLE, TO TOO FEW, TOO LATE

February 10, 2010 12:00 AM

Commenting on today's release of details of the Welsh Boiler Scrappage Scheme, Jenny Willott, Welsh Liberal Democrat MP for Cardiff Central, said:

"This tiny scheme is pathetic. There are 320,000 households in Wales living in fuel poverty. This scheme is a drop in the ocean.

"The fact is that the Labour government in Westminster launched this scheme out of the blue, leaving people in Wales out in the cold.

"People in England have been receiving funding to upgrade their boilers for the last two weeks.

"By 1st April, the cold snap we are experiencing will be over. People need the help now, not in two months time.

"We need a proper national programme to upgrade our existing housing stock from top to bottom, not a second class scheme delivering too little, to too few, too late."

If you are a resident of the Cardiff Central constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
