The below news shows the Early Day Motions Jenny has supported during this Parliament.

  • Jan 16, 2012:
    • Women And Job Sharing
Jenny Willott has seconded EDM2581. Motion reads: "That this House welcomes the Capability Jane/Working Families report published in December 2011 entitled Job Sharing at a Senior Level: Making it Work; notes that the expectation of working long hours can clash with employees' family commitments which can be detrimental to both employees and organisations; further notes the particular effect this has on women in the workplace with 80 per cent. of highly qualified women wishing to work part-time; is pleased that leading global corporations have supported ground-breaking research into job sharing as a way of reversing the female brain drain and empowering more women to progress into senior roles; and hopes that this report will bring this issue to the attention of the Government in order that it may consider it in the context of female parliamentary representation and the wider constitutional and political reform agenda."
  • Dec 20, 2011:
    • Centenary Of Rotary
Jenny Willott has signed EDM2514. Motion reads: "That this House congratulates Rotary International clubs in the United Kingdom on the centenary of Rotary in Britain; believes that Rotary clubs throughout the British Isles have provided exemplary service and funds to communities both locally and internationally since 1911 and the work they do is needed more than ever today; commends Rotary International for its leadership in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative; further believes the campaign is at a critical stage as India, one of the four remaining endemic countries, has not had a polio case for 10 months; notes that globally, polio cases have reduced by more than 30 per cent. on last year; and encourages governments and the public to continue their support for this campaign."
  • Dec 1, 2011:
    • General Anti-Avoidance Rule For Taxation
Jenny Willott has signed EDM2501. Motion reads: "That this House notes the widespread public concern about the extent of tax avoidance and evasion by individuals and corporations; further notes that while evasion is illegal, taxes can be avoided by schemes that are contrived in their nature or by arrangements that are artificial and thus far removed from the responsible tax planning measures provided for by Parliament; believes that the ever-growing expansion of anti-avoidance measures has not eliminated the scope for exploitation of loopholes; further notes the publication of the report by Graham Aaronson QC outlining the case for the introduction of a general anti-avoidance rule in the UK; and urges HM Treasury to bring forward legislation within the next Finance Bill for the introduction of such a rule."
  • Nov 22, 2011:
    • Just Pay! Campaign For Living Wages In The Ftse 100
Jenny Willott has signed EDM2023. Motion reads: "That this House notes with concern that an estimated 3.5 million adults over 22 years are paid less than 7per hour; further notes that in 2008-09, over half of all children in poverty in the UK had at least one parent in work; further notes that low pay is closely associated with other social disadvantages including poor health, substandard housing and personal debt; welcomes the recently-announced 2011 living wage rates of 8.30 per hour in London and 7.20 per hour outside London; believes that increasing the wages of the low-paid makes good business sense as it reduces staff turnover and sickness-related absenteeism, whilst also benefiting the wider economy by boosting consumer spending and reducing the public cost of benefits and tax credits; therefore supports FairPensions' JustPay! campaign to encourage FTSE 100 companies to pay living wages to all UK staff and on-site contractors; congratulates those companies who have already responded to the campaign by committing to become living wage employers; and calls on other FTSE 100 companies to follow suit."
    • Rail Fares
Jenny Willott has signed EDM1577. Motion reads: "That this House notes that rail fares are at an all-time high, with some season tickets now costing over 5,000, or the equivalent of a fifth of the average UK salary; is concerned that such high fares will put rail travel out of reach for many people, restrict access to jobs and result in greater congestion and carbon emissions; therefore welcomes efforts to create a simpler, more affordable fare structure; further notes the Government's commitment to fair pricing for rail travel as set out in the Coalition Agreement; and calls on the Government to honour this commitment by reviewing its decision to increase fares by three per cent. above inflation from January 2012 in the light of the outcomes of the McNulty value for money study, which has already identified significant potential cost savings."
  • Nov 15, 2011:
    • Cctv In UK Slaughterhouses
Jenny Willott has signed EDM2273. Motion reads: "That this House calls on the Government to bring forward legislative proposals for the mandatory installation of CCTV in UK slaughterhouses; expresses concern that eight of the nine slaughterhouses secretly filmed by Animal Aid have breached the law, a failure rate of 89 per cent.; is disappointed with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs' decision not to prosecute when evidence of animal welfare abuses are secretly recorded; believes that the introduction of compulsory CCTV in UK slaughterhouses will increase animal protection and allow those caught on film breaking the law to be prosecuted; welcomes the support of the Food Standards Agency (FSA)for the use of CCTV in slaughterhouses as a useful monitoring tool; notes that plant operators who operate CCTV are keen to demonstrate to FSA officials the high standard to which their operatives work; and furtherbelieves other UK slaughterhouses should follow this best practice to maintain the UK's position as a world leader on animal welfare standards."
  • Nov 7, 2011:
    • UK Youth Parliament Campaign 2011
Jenny Willott has proposed EDM2391. Motion reads: "That this House notes the recent national poll of 65,000 young people leading to the debate and vote by Members of the UK Youth Parliament at their sitting in the House of Commons on 4 November 2011; welcomes the campaign chosen by Members of the UK Youth Parliament for 2011-12 on Public transport: better, cheaper and accessible; recognises the importance of listening to young people; and therefore calls on the Government formally to respond to the issues raised within the campaign."

    • Bankruptcy Of Allied Steel And Wire
Jenny Willott has proposed EDM2348. Motion reads: "That this House notes the bankruptcy of Allied Steel Wire (ASW) in 2002 and the deficits of its company pension schemes; recognises the dedicated campaign of John Benson, Denis Kelleher and others aimed at restoring the pensions of ASW members; welcomes the expert advice and support they have received from Dr Ros Altman; and calls on the Government to negotiate with insurers to investigate the unwinding of the annuities of existing ASW pensioners to release additional funds, examine the case for allowing ASW employees to restore their contracted-out rights through deemed buyback and examine the case for raising the indexation cap within the Financial Assistance Scheme to bring to a close the long-running financial insecurity of the former ASW employees."
  • Oct 11, 2011:
    • Wales And The Rugby World Cup
Jenny Willott has seconded EDM2231. Motion reads: "That this House warmly congratulates the Welsh rugby team on reaching the semi finals of the Rugby World Cup; recognises that this has been achieved by its exhilarating, exemplary, professional and disciplined approach led by its outstanding captain Sam Warburton and its coaching staff led by Warren Gatland; notes that this progress is also due to the way the Welsh Rugby Union led by Dennis Gethin, has nurtured mini, schools, youth and community rugby; and wishes the team every success in the remaining stages of the competition."
    • Trident Review
Jenny Willott has signed EDM1924. Motion reads: "That this House welcomes the Government's decision to carry out a review into alternatives to the Trident replacement; regrets that neither the review nor the Strategic Defence and Security Review considered all options including non-replacement and a non-nuclear defence policy; and believes such a review should be carried out before the Trident replacement Main Gate decision in 2016."

If you are a resident of the Cardiff Central constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
