Jenny Willott - Standing up for Cardiff Central

Tory proposals rehashing old announcements

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 29th Jul 2008

Commenting on the Conservative's Uniting Britain's Divided Cities programme, which was released today, Liberal Democrat Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, Jenny Willott MP, said:

"These proposals from the Conservatives are just rehashing old announcements.

"When will the Tories admit that the problems in deprived cities got worse in the 1990s when they were in charge?

"Instead of taking responsibility and telling us how they will help they say that volunteer groups and private companies must do all the hard work.

"No-one believes that can make the real difference in struggling

neighbourhoods. It just doesn't ring true."
